Playa del Cabrón, Gran Canaria Island, Canary Islands, Spain
February 3, 2023 | 11:00
This was a classic 'el Cabrón' dive. You just need to take your time and a bit of care getting in and out but then underwater you are rewarded by big shoals of fish, colourful fish such as damselfish, parrotfish, wrasse, and if you look in between the rocks you can see nudibranch, scorpion fish, arrowhead crabs and yellow sponges.
We started out and headed towards the 'roncadors' and saw several moray eels along the swim, when we got to the swim we found bogas, barracudas, groupers, and more morays. One of these is probably the biggest in Arinaga, and lives in a deep hole, but sticks his head out from time to time. The red and yellow corals were looking healthy and after spotting a large ray we came across a baby hiding in a shallow depression. A couple of nudibranchs and a big school of barracudas rounded off a nice dive!

Entered by jumping off side of new diver's ramp - actual ramp was too crowded. Spider crabs were marching, but not mounding. Lots and lots of spider crabs. But also lots of crab pots and chicken carcasses. So much chicken ! Yuck.
Also saw a fiddler ray (banjoshark), big stingray, lots of little stingrays, pipe fish, leatherjackets (feeding on chicken). Lots of moulting crabs. Stingray was eating a crab !
Excellent dive, very calm.... More

Stingrays are flattened fish closely related to sharks. They have no bones in their body - their skeleton is made up of flexible cartilage the same as ears and nose in humans.
