About Director's Bay

Previously owned by the Directors of Shell Oil, this beautiful, dramatic dive site in the middle of nowhere, has the shortest swim-out on Curacao and plenty for divers and snorkelers to enjoy. Paranoid about shark attacks, the Directors built a cage around the shallow sandy area on top of the drop-off, so they were safe when swimming and snorkeling. Once they realised that there were no sharks, the cage fell into disrepair and was left to collapse. Lucky for divers, this makes this steeply sloping wall dive even more interesting, as the debris has become part of the reef and home to heaps of critters. This steeply sloping wall is lively and healthy with lots of the 'usual' stuff to look out for: lots of hard and soft corals, heaps of tropical fish, moray eels and seahorses and turtles if you're lucky.

Beautiful dive! Octopus out in the open near the ruins of the "Director's shark fence". Directly under a beautiful huge Elkhorn coral. Nikki got photos! 🤞
