Description

A cenote is a natural pit or sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Especially associated with the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, cenotes were sometimes used by the ancient Maya for sacrificial offerings. Diving in cenotes and caverns you will find beautiful ceiling and floor decorations called stalactites and stalagmites, when they meet they create columns. When light enters the water through cavern openings, it creates beautiful beams of light which photographers love.
