4 week Coral Conservation Program $5,900
College students and Citizen Scientists of all ages who are looking for a chance to try something different are invited to join us at Eco Divers for an exciting new way to learn.

Each day will start with a classroom session to prepare us for our daily activities. Then we head underwater!

Your first two days will depend on your experience with SCUBA diving. Untrained divers will be taught safe diving procedures and by the third day will be PADI Open Water certified.. Experienced divers will begin working directly on Coral Restoration training and will be introduced to our nursery sties..

By the third day, all students will be participating in maintaining our nursery sites. With three locations and nearly one thousand corals to manage, daily visits to the nurseries is vital to maintaining coral health.

Day four will lead into more advanced coral outplant training, discussing outplant and site selection criteria. Understanding of the marine environment is crucial when planning future outplant sites and monitoring existing sites for stability and general health.

Day five we will move coral to one of our outplant locations. This important task will begin with workshops and documentation to record our actions and help demystify our actions underwater. Citizen scientist interaction is encouraged and discussions will be an integral part of our morning classes.

During the weekends, we continue our maintenance efforts, with multiple daily dives and interaction with local training programs where residents are encouraged to become involved in our program.

As our second week begins, we will introduce Advanced Open Water training. Every student completing our two week program will be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

During your second week, we will also take part in the Cayman Blue Iguana Conservation and Breeding program here on island. These amazing, blue Iguanas are critically endangered and we are proud supporters of the Blue Iguana Recovery project.

Expanded daily training and education on managing, identifying and handling corals will allow our week two students a chance to assume leadership positions working with our resident volunteers and incoming citizen scientists.

As you enter the third week of our program, we introduce more advanced dive skills and emergency procedures. By the end of your third week, each student will be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver and be trained in CPR and emergency first aid.

Continual education and training about coral conservation will expand your understanding of what is required to manage, grow and safely return coral to our reefs.

Advanced theory regarding safe handling and thoughtful site selection will be critical for our four week program. Around the world, coral reefs are failing and we must look at not only the reasons why, but how we can work past those issues.
